What to expect

  1. 1

    Assessment

A physician confirms it's a wart and identifies the type (common, plantar, flat) and the best treatment approach.

  2. 2

    Treatment selection

We pick between cryotherapy (liquid nitrogen), curettage, or topical treatment based on wart type, size and location.

  3. 3

    Procedure

Cryotherapy takes a few seconds per spot; surgical treatment requires a quick local anesthetic, then the wart is removed in minutes.

  4. 4

    Follow-up

Cryotherapy is often repeated every 2 weeks until clearance. Surgical treatment is usually one-and-done.

Real stories from mole-removal patients

Dr. Khan had done many treatments for me including the removal of a cancerous lesion. He provides Kenalog shots for arthritic and painful joints. I am pleased I was referred to him several years ago. He always listens to your concerns. I really like him, always professional and pleasant.

Frequently asked

Common questions

Is it covered by OHIP?+

Warts in the genital area or on the feet are generally covered by OHIP. Warts on other parts of the body such as the hands or face are not covered and a fee will apply. Private insurance may cover part or all of non-OHIP treatments.

Is this procedure painful?+

Liquid nitrogen causes mild stinging for 3–5 seconds and may cause mild discomfort for 1–2 days after. Surgical options require local anesthetic injection with temporary stinging; once anesthetized the procedure is virtually painless.

How many treatments do I need?+

Liquid nitrogen may require 3, 4 or more treatments every two weeks for hand warts. Plantar warts are treated weekly and may take several weeks or months to resolve. Surgical treatments are generally a one-time procedure.
