What to expect

  1. 1

    Consultation & assessment

A physician examines the lesion to determine whether it is benign, cosmetic, or suspicious for skin cancer. We explain your options and pricing before anything is done.

  2. 2

    Numbing

A small local anesthetic is injected. Within 60 seconds the area is fully numb — the rest of the visit is painless.

  3. 3

    Removal

The mole is removed using the technique best suited to its size, depth and location (shave, excision, or surgical excision with sutures).

  4. 4

    Sutures out

If stitches were placed, they are removed in 7–10 days. You leave with full aftercare instructions.

  5. 5

    Follow-up & pathology

Suspicious lesions are sent to pathology. Results are reviewed with you, and we recommend annual skin checks.

Real stories from mole-removal patients

I highly recommend that you visit this clinic for any mole concerns that you may have. Dr. Khan and his lovely assistant made me feel very comfortable as they assessed my concern over a mole on my face. They decided that complete removal was the best route to go and I trusted them completely. I apologize that I forgot his assistants name. She took her time to precisely place the needles to freeze the area, ensuring me that I wouldn't feel any discomfort. She was absolutely right. Dr. Khan also, didn't proceed without ensuring the same painless experience. The procedure was indeed quick and painless. Thank you both very much. I am looking so forward to having the stitches removed to see the incredible job that Dr. Khan did with this removal. Thank you, Lee Marcucci

This clinic is definitely busy, but the waiting area is spacious, clean, and very comfortable. The two women at the front desk were so friendly and knowledgeable—one seemed to be in training, and she was doing an excellent job. Once I was in the room, Dr. Khan made sure I felt comfortable. He was quick but very thorough, explained the different types of moles, and gave me the great news that everything was clear. Before I left, the receptionist booked my follow-up for next year, and something I really appreciated was how everyone addressed me by my first name. It made the whole experience feel warm and personal, almost like they already knew me. I highly recommend this clinic if you're looking for a skin specialist.

Frequently asked

Common questions

Is it covered by OHIP?+

You will be assessed to determine if your skin lesion is suspicious for skin cancer. If the diagnosis is unclear or suspicious for cancer, the mole will be biopsied and covered by OHIP. If the lesion is known to be benign, removal is not covered by OHIP.

Is this procedure painful?+

Mole removal is virtually painless. The only sensitive part is injection of the local anesthetic. A topical numbing cream can be applied upon request. Once anesthetized, you will not feel the procedure.

Will there be a scar?+

No clinician can guarantee no scarring. However, The Mole Clinic has completed over 45,000 procedures since 2008 and has developed significant expertise to minimize scarring. Moles on the face generally heal better than those on the body.

Does private insurance cover cosmetic mole removal?+

Many private insurance companies have Health Spending or Flex Spending accounts that may cover part or all of the cost. We can provide a detailed quotation for submission to your insurer. Financing is also available through medicard.com.
