What to expect
1
Examination
A physician confirms the lump is a benign lipoma or cyst and discusses size, depth and ideal approach.
2
Numbing
Local anesthetic is injected around the area. Within a minute the site is fully numb.
3
Surgical removal
A small incision allows the entire lesion (and its capsule, in the case of cysts) to be removed to minimize recurrence.
4
Closure
Deep absorbable sutures support healing; nylon sutures close the skin neatly to reduce scarring.
5
Sutures out
Stitches come out at 7–10 days on the face or 14 days on the body. Full healing in 2–4 weeks.
In our patients' words
Real stories from mole-removal patients
Dr. Khan went above and beyond for me. I had accidentally booked my appointment incorrectly with my family doctor, so the referral wasn't right. I was told I'd need to come back another day to get the full body scan I was hoping for. Even though the mix-up was on my end, Dr. Khan still took the extra time to do a full body scan.
He was incredibly thorough, kind, and truly made me feel cared for. He even said, "We treat our patients the way we would want to be treated," and he genuinely lived up to that. I've seen two other dermatologists in the past and always left feeling dismissed — but not with him.
I'm so grateful my friend recommended him. I'm beyond impressed and so thankful for Dr. Khan.

Initial reception was excellent and professional. Waiting area very clean and organized. Inside room now, very clean and sterile. Dr assistant excellent as well, super friendly and professional. I am not sure what the difference is between this specialty and family doctors, but I would suggest the majority in this industry to learn a lot from these people, in many ways. Waiting for doctor assessment. Outstanding doctor amazingly professional. Highly reccomend !!!! I almost feel bad nothing medically to help me with. Haha clean bill of health. All the best and success
Lipomas and cysts are generally easy to remove under local anesthesia. The area is thoroughly injected to ensure sufficient numbness. When the anesthetic wears off, discomfort is easily managed with acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Will the lipoma or cyst come back?+
In our experience, recurrence is thankfully rare. However, despite appropriate precautions and advanced techniques, there is always a theoretical risk of these lesions returning.
Do you use stitches?+
Lipomas and cysts are deep in the skin and require an incision for proper removal. Nylon sutures close the skin afterwards and absorbable sutures close the deeper layers to prevent an indented scar.
How long is the recovery time?+
Stitches are typically left in for 14 days, or 7–10 days on the face. Once stitches are removed, healing occurs over 2–4 weeks.
