Real stories from mole-removal patients

Dr. Khan had done many treatments for me including the removal of a cancerous lesion. He provides Kenalog shots for arthritic and painful joints. I am pleased I was referred to him several years ago. He always listens to your concerns. I really like him, always professional and pleasant.

Dr. Khan went above and beyond for me. I had accidentally booked my appointment incorrectly with my family doctor, so the referral wasn't right. I was told I'd need to come back another day to get the full body scan I was hoping for. Even though the mix-up was on my end, Dr. Khan still took the extra time to do a full body scan. He was incredibly thorough, kind, and truly made me feel cared for. He even said, "We treat our patients the way we would want to be treated," and he genuinely lived up to that. I've seen two other dermatologists in the past and always left feeling dismissed — but not with him. I'm so grateful my friend recommended him. I'm beyond impressed and so thankful for Dr. Khan.

Frequently asked

Common questions

Is it covered by OHIP?+

As a general rule, keloid scar injections are not covered by OHIP — it is considered a cosmetic condition.

Is this procedure painful?+

Keloid scars are very dense and steroid injections into them can be uncomfortable. To reduce discomfort, we mix the steroid solution with 2% xylocaine anesthetic. The vast majority of patients tolerate the injections well.

What causes keloid scars?+

Keloid scars are caused by a genetic predisposition. Certain areas — such as the shoulders and mid-chest — are more susceptible, but genetically predisposed patients can form keloids anywhere on the body. They typically develop after minor injury, trauma or even acne.

How many treatments will I need?+

We typically inject steroid into keloid scars every six to eight weeks. With each treatment patients generally see improvement, shrinkage, flattening and improved colouring of the scar. Treatments can be continued at six-to-eight-week intervals until you are satisfied with the results.

When will I see results?+

Patients can generally expect to see improvement in the colour, texture and thickness of the keloid scar within four to six weeks. Response to treatment varies.
