What to expect
1
Assessment
A physician examines the nail to confirm fungal infection and assess whether OHIP applies (e.g. ingrown toenails).
2
Numbing
A local anesthetic block is injected at the base of the toe; within a minute the area is fully numb.
3
Nail removal
The infected nail plate is gently lifted and removed using precise surgical instruments.
4
Aftercare
You leave with detailed wound-care instructions; over-the-counter pain medication usually manages soreness for 2–3 days.
5
Regrowth
A new nail grows in over 9–12 months. Good foot hygiene minimizes the chance of recurrence.

Real stories from mole-removal patients
Well done, On time and pleasant.

I highly recommend that you visit this clinic for any mole concerns that you may have.
Dr. Khan and his lovely assistant made me feel very comfortable as they assessed my concern over a mole on my face. They decided that complete removal was the best route to go and I trusted them completely.
I apologize that I forgot his assistants name. She took her time to precisely place the needles to freeze the area, ensuring me that I wouldn't feel any discomfort.
She was absolutely right. Dr. Khan also, didn't proceed without ensuring the same painless experience.
The procedure was indeed quick and painless. Thank you both very much.
I am looking so forward to having the stitches removed to see the incredible job that Dr. Khan did with this removal.
Thank you,
Lee Marcucci
For certain conditions such as an ingrown toenail this treatment is covered by OHIP. Please ask your family doctor to send a referral to our clinic for a medical assessment of the nail condition. Upon assessment our clinic will advise you whether or not the treatment will be covered by OHIP. It's a good idea to check with your insurance company as well to see if they will cover the procedure.
Is this procedure painful?+
The procedure involves injecting local anesthetic to numb the toe, followed by lifting and extracting the nail plate off the nail bed with surgical instruments. The anesthetic injection causes minor discomfort lasting a few seconds; under anesthetic there is virtually no pain during the procedure, though you may feel some pulling and pressure. You may experience some discomfort over the following two to three days, easily managed with over-the-counter pain medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Will the fungus be completely removed?+
This procedure successfully removes the nail plate that is infected with fungus. Long-term eradication depends on good hygiene — patients who work in wet conditions or wear occlusive shoes all day may experience recurrence. Wash your feet regularly with soap and water, change your socks once or twice daily (preferably cotton), and wear comfortable-fitting shoes.
How soon will I see improvement?+
Once the nail is removed it will take about 9 to 12 months for the nail to regrow. After several weeks you will start to see new nail growth and the nail should look normal.
How often will I need treatment?+
In general, nail removal is a one-time procedure and repeat removal should not be necessary provided you employ good hygiene and foot care practices.
